PUT A BIRD ON IT!
I don't care if the bird thing is all played out or what, but I really like birds as a design element, especially in jewelry. I have a pair of flying Thai silver swallow earrings that I made five years ago that I still wear (made before the Portlandia sketch blew up a couple of years ago) that usually gets complimented on.

Green ruffled sweater from The Limited (4 years old), 7 for All Mankind "A" pocket flares (4 years old), and yellow fake suede wedges from DSW. I'll probably wear the sweater again for St. Patrick's Day! This is my don't want to pose stance.

Got these mustard yellow wedges last summer from DSW and used a coupon to get them at a way lower price ($20 something). The wedge heels are wood and are about 3" high.

They look and feel like suede but they're not. The toe is more blunt than I'm used to, but I've been trying to incorporate more color in my wardrobe and thought yellow would be a nice 'pop' of color.

The jewelry...

The gold tone birds necklace was from H & M (bought last Spring for $5.95). There is actually a more expensive real silver version of this (here's the link from Uncommon Goods) for $79 but $5.95 seemed a lot more doable for me. The more pricy necklace feature a mother bird with up to four baby birds. I guess there's no Mother Bird Nesting necklace if you have more than four kids. Too bad for Kate Gosselin or that Duggar woman with the mullet. Doesn't she have twenty kids? I think her nesting bird necklaces would end up making her look like the "Big Love" version of Mr. T.
By the way, despite this not being real gold or silver, my neck hasn't turned green yet.

Here are my revamped earrings (I changed out the hooks) seen here in the original post, "Fabulous Shopping on Fern". These were from the Make Good store. I took off the lever back hooks (I hate those!) and used these simpler gold hooks that are a feel much better on my ears. The other hooks made the earrings hang too low.

I normally don't wear gold anything, but I really liked the bird charm drops. This pair makes me want to start making jewelry again. All of my beads and wires and findings are in storage and I would have to dig them out. That's the only drawback, but it's so inexpensive and easy to do drop earrings like these. I used to buy bracelets, necklaces or earrings on clearance with the intent to "take them apart" and make them into earrings or incorporate them into another piece of costume jewelry.
Below, an alternate version of "And Your Bird Can Sing"..
For the vinyl junkies out there, "And Your Bird Can Sing" was the second song on side 2 of "Revolver" for the North American Capitol Records release in 1966. The album was later rereleased in 1997 on CD and removed three tracks to correlate to the original UK track listing (deleted tracks were "I'm Only Sleeping", "And Your Bird Can Sing", and "Doctor Robert") because they originally appeared on the previous album, "Yesterday and Today", also known as the infamous "butcher cover" album.
Here's the steamer trunk photo they used to "cover" the original "butcher" cover (which showcased the Beatles (namely John's) black humor and their first foray into conceptual album cover art).

and here's the controversial "butcher" cover. Over 750,000 were printed and offended retailers ended up covering this image with the steamer trunk image or destroying the copies.

The butcher cover is one of the rarest Beatles album covers and worth thousands of dollars. A "pristine" cover is one that was never pasted over with the alternate image. The pasted on covers were also rare, but worth less were the covers that were pasted on but peeled to reveal the butcher cover. I remember seeing one of the butcher covers at the now defunct Blue Meannie records in El Cajon. The record store was aptly named after a character from the animated "Yelow Submarine". The album was under a protective glass case, away from
filthy prying fingers and only available for records geeks like us to gawk at.

That Y&T album cover must have been pretty shocking back then. There's worse stuff out there nowadays.
