2013 is only six hours away...
Bought as a "gift" for Bert...

I couldn't resist - it was half off at CVS...

They have a cute design and a nice little crunch!

One of my colleagues gave me a gif basket from Goldilocks Bakery! This is the same guy who gave me Jer's Handmade Chocolates last year.

This was completely unexpected but welcomed! Within were garlic peanuts, brownies, fruit bars (langka or 'jackfruit', pineapple and mango), plus polvoron (labeled as "Manila shortbread") featuring pinipig (toasted rice), ube, peanut, and a special flavor (whatever that could be). Very nice! We just might snack on these tonight to ring in the New Year!

These were a few of the cute gifts that TC gave me, the Totoro compact mirror and the metal Domo pencil case. So cute!

From my godparents, a loaf of...

my Ninang's awesome homemade banana walnut bread which we'll be eating this for days!

From a student, a gift set of "drums" filled with different treats: kettle corn, spiced gum drops (which TC has been eyeing), peanut brittle, and milk chocolate truffles. This hasn't been opened yet. One of my friends saw this and said it was from Costco. Well, wherever it was from, it was a nice surprise to get on the last day of school/work.

From N & L, a trio of items from Stonewall Kitchen - a red fluted pie dish (quite pretty), boxed pie crust mix, and jarred apple pie filling. I'll attempt to make this sometime this week or weekend!

We've been enjoying this gigantor canister of cocoa, given to me by a student. Holy cow, that's 2.5 lbs of cocoa!

Now this was something I totally did not expect from a student...

A Ron Weasley replica wand, which came in a velvet lined box covered with sheer dark blue ribbon.

It's so funny, about a few weeks ago, the student noticed my "Deathly Hallows" earrings and then we ended up talking about the Harry Potter series and Whimsic Alley (a Harry Potter themed store in L.A. which I have blogged about).

Not completely random, but definitely unexpected! It's the thought that counts, right?
Asides from these material items, the gifts that I treasured the MOST were spending quality time with my family and friends, enjoying good health, and a stable career. It's been quite a fun year trying new cuisines, going on foodcrawls, and strengthening friendships with friends from way back when, as well as from the blogosphere. I hope that 2013 brings more of the same adventure that I've experienced this year!
A few more posts to come before the year is up featuring traditional Filipino foods to be made tonight by yours truly...
