Pure Cupcakes

After our craptastic lunch from the pho-kin crappy Pho Time, TC and I went to the next shopping complex down the street.

It's the same complex with Great News Cookware & Cooking School...

There was a cupcake place that I'd been meaning to check out, one that I didn't realize was here until I attended the red velvet taste off a few months ago with Mary and the gang...

That place was Pure Cupcakes...

I'm so out of touch with those reality food shows because I didn't know that this place won Cupcake Wars last year.

I remember liking their red velvet cupcake - it was sweet and simple, but we weren't here for red velvet.

It's sparse and clean inside with light pastels throughout.

Cupcake prices vary depending on if they are standard, specialty or premium.

Each table had a jar filled with napkins and forks - very handy!

Although we didn't eat our cupcakes here...

we only sat down for the quicky photo shoot.

And here they are - German Chocolate, Chocolate Haze, Vanilla Bean, and Guava.

The German Chocolate and Guava were  specialty cupcakes while the Chocolate Haze was premium with the Vanilla as standard.  They looked pretty for the time being...but would they taste good?

The cupcakes in this box got a bit squished during transit. By the time we got home, the frostings had shifted and they didn't look as nice.

They were hard to remove neatly, at least for me. Look at the messed up toppings now.

All of these tasted pretty good. I tried all but the vanilla; TC liked it. If you look closely, you can see the specks of real vanilla bean in the frosting. My favorite was the Chocolate Haze, with the bits of hazelnuts within. Bert's favorite was what I had predicted, the German Chocolate. That flavor has always been his favorite since he was young.

The guava cupcake with the coconut frosting was quite nice as well. The topping was simple and not frou frou or overdone. The guava filling was a bit on the lighter side but it was a nice change from the normal flavors.

Here's a video about the owners winning Cupcake Wars:

I don't know if I'd spend $13 on cupcakes again, but this was all in the name of "research".  Although they have a lot of interesting flavors online, they didn't really have a lot of those types of flavors in the store. I'm sure they rotate their flavors, but when we went, the flavors were on the standard side. I was hoping to try the mango-chili but it wasn't there. Maybe next time, if there is one!

Our last stop would be drinks...TC used her Jamba Juice gift card in the same complex while I went to my first coffee drive through just down the street...

I've been wanting to come visit this place since our tasting, too! The cupcakes look so pretty, too. I like those pearls on top of the vanilla one. Very fancy. I didn't know they won Cupcake Wars, either, but then again I don't really like that show. haha

Mary - it's worth at least one visit. i wish they had their more "exotic" cupcakes the day of our visit. the flavor selection that day wasn't very much - just the basics it seemed. nice ladies there though. and yeah, i haven't watched that show either. It's all about Game of Thrones right now!
