Pie and ice cream

It was time to take off and head back to Ottawa before returning to the Island. Before that, we made a quick stop at C's aunt's house on another island.

Heading north on St. Charles Blvd is the welcome sign to the community of Kirkland...

which is a suburb on the Island of Montreal, located in the southwesterly portion of Quebec.

Here is a map to get your bearings...

(map from wikipedia)

Her aunt is one of C's mom's many sisters (I want to say there were four or five). Several nights before, we were at another aunt's house to celebrate a great aunt's 90th birthday. One of the other relatives had just gotten married and they were also commemorating the 40 day death anniversary of C's grandmother.  I have to say that at both aunts' homes, we were treated with typical Filipino hospitality.

Her aunt lived in a beautiful neighborhood and her home was just as nice, boasting a gorgeous garden. The homes here are split level so you have to go down a flight of steps to get to the back yard. Her garden had so many flowering shrubs and fragrant vines. There were also little niches in her garden which made it a delight to walk through.

Her aunt offered all of us ice cream, a cool treat on such a hot day.  I want to say that this was vanilla.
The other flavor offered was chocolate chip...

Here is more of the garden...

Those are white hydrangeas out in the back...

It was so peaceful out in her garden. Very nice indeed.

In addition to the ice cream, she also served us apple pie!

I guess we all needed a little something before the long drive back to Ottawa...

More lush hydrangeas...

These are quite pretty, foxgloves.

Her aunt enjoyed showing us around...

Gosh, our backyard look like a complete dump compared to this garden paradise!

Our next stop would be at C's best friend's place in Ottawa (where we stopped by earlier that week)...

How beautiful and wonderfully reminiscent in hospitality. I miss brick homes and the flower varieties able to be grown in the back yard.

Yes, C's relatives were so nice! Very generous....

It was nice seeing a different type of architecture. definitely no Spanish style, Craftsman, or ranch there. Lots of brick, as you mentioned. The flowers are different too! Loved seeing the contrast between what they can grow and what grows in SoCal.
