Return to SEL in RPQ & Yogurt Swirl

What's nice about being on break is that I can finally go out to lunch with my friends and with TC. It really beats being cooped up in the office and eating at my desk or having leftovers.

Best of all, I am not subjected to the narrow whims of several of my co-workers who seem to be afraid to venture out of their culinary comfort zone.

Not so when I'm out with the always talented, humorous, and vivacious Carol of CAB Cooks. I know that whenever I'm with her, she is always game to try something new as well as make good suggestions.

I haven't been here since January and this time we sat on the "other side".

This time, I made sure to order the A12 - the Thai Sausage as an appetizer rather than in fried rice.

We also got T1 - Nahm Tok among a few other dishes to share.

It was so nice seeing Carol again and getting caught up.

She shared with us her latest passion, which was crocheting knit caps and snoods (for dogs!) and scarves (for humans). Below is a photo of Luna Lovegood, of Ravenclaw House from Hogwarts (from the Harry Potter series). Her scarf is one that CAB was able to replicate...

Here's a detail of the scarf. She used a light mocha yard with metallic threads.

The scarf was so pretty and intricate looking.

Uh....please make mine in purple! : )

Our drinks - Iced coffee and iced tea.

Everything was ordered mild for the sake of TC.

First up - Papaya salad which was crisp and refreshing...

followed by my favorite, the Thai sausage with slivers of fresh ginger, crunchy peanuts, a widge of cabage and fancy cut cucumbers.

This is my favorite and I order it at all of the SEL's.

We also ordered the beef Nahm Tok...

which had a tiny bit of heat but no so much as to be uncomfortable. I didn't want to have any "problems" the next day, heh heh.

My eyes were big, so I also ordered sticky rice to eat with the Thai sausage...

Not a favorite of TC's was the Salted Fish Fried Rice - which was too pungent and salty for her liking. We adults, on the other hand, liked it.

The Pad Thai with Chicken was ordered mainly for TC, but we each had a tiny bit of it. Good sauce here. Unlike at some other places where it's nearly non-existent or too wierd tasting. This was on the sweeter side.

You can see that we already started on the Papaya salad and the Thai Sausage!

Man, this was a lot of food!

Dessert afterwards was just a few minutes away at Yogurt Swirl...

TC let us decide the flavors...Carmel milk (that's THEIR spelling of 'caramel') and Chocolate were the flavors for the shaved snow.

The toppings would be the mini multicolored mochi...

along with coffee jelly.  The large was ordered so we could enjoy the two flavors on a plate. The condensed milk was drizzled over the top which kind of weighed down the shaved snow and and mit less voluminous.

CAB liked the Carmel milk snow better than the chocolate. I liked the look of the ribbons of the shaved snow. TC and I enjoyed the chocolate flavor.

I am bummed that they no longer offer the sesame flavor of the shaved snow.

I've wanted to try that sausage app!! It looks delicious! I love spicy food and I must say that SEL is no joke when it comes to spicy stuff. Their level 7 (outta 10) is an INSANE level 7.

My Irish Setter had a snood. It was the most ridiculous thing ever and he got made fun of everytime he wore it :( But man, did it help when he ate his meals!

hi jinxi - omg, you have to go back. when we ordered the salted fish fried rice, i forgot that i already tried it (also with Carol) at their Santee location, which isn't affiliated with the RPQ or Linda Vista location. It's unceremoniously excluded from their pamphlets and website. Hmmmm, drama?

and boo to the deep sixing of the sesame flavor at yogurt swirl. i really liked it too. :(

hi faye - yes, that sausage is my favorite at all of the SEL's. we did not do spicy since my daughter was with us. personally, i don't like it too spicy since i want to enjoy my food and not have to deal with the "aftermath" the next day.

awwwwww....i bet your dog looks so cute with a snood!

For saying that I'm vivacious, purple scarf it is! I really enjoyed the meal. The shaved snow was really good too. The chocolate was good with the coffee gel. I was so stuffed afterwards.

It was great seeing you two again! Let's try to have lunch again before you guys go back to school.
