Despite the constant dreary weather, we made the quick trek up the hill from our suite to the International Rose Test Garden...
Funny, when I think of the words "rose garden", this song comes to mind:
Okay, I admit, that wasn't the original but I just had to throw that in there.
About the Rose Garden, free admission, so score. But nothing in bloom so big fat fail on us. Actually, we knew it would be pretty barren since it was still early in the Spring time.
Nevertheless, since we didn't get a chance to see it back in 2009, we were determined to at least check it out, rain be damned!
There are rows and rows of rose beds, all identified by markers. Over 550 varieties of roses are grown here.
I'm sure this would have been much more amazing in a few months time.

We still had fun wandering the extensive grounds. TC especially enjoyed splashing in the rain puddles with her Timberlands.
There are also small portions that have themes like the "mini" rose garden (of course, no blooms yet).
There was a brick walkway commemorating all of the past Rose Garden queens, dating from the early 1900's to the present. You could also see the trends in women's names back then such as the popularity of the names "Dorothy", "Edith", "Nancy", "Frances", and "Virginia" (to name a few). Kind of "old ladyish names".

The garden also had a section dedicated to Shakespeare...

After all of this prettiness (and also to get out of the rain!), we took off to an alternate location of a famed donut shop.

There are close to 7,000 rose bushes which featured over 500 varieties. The best time to visit is from May to September.
