You know those country roads don't have lights, so yeah...after this, it was time to GTFO!
Some of the many types of bread baked daily at Dudley's. It smelled so good in here! I don't know how the workers can stand it!

Ooh, a "bread wheel"!

Their offerings...

They were out of one type of bread I really wanted (which of course I forgot what it was and it's not listed on the board above)...It had some sort of fruit and nut in it. We ended up settling for the Julian apple nut bread (mmmm, future French toast!) and a strudel.

We should have bought this pie too! Sad panda.

So long Dudley's!

Here's my "BryanBoy" purse pose but with our bread loaf!

Here's the real Bryanboy, a gay Filipino fashion blogger (he's from the Philippines).

We checked out Don's Market which was next door (and also where we parked). I wanted to get some raw apple cider since we liked it so much. It's pretty small in there but they have the necessities and then some. Lots of beef jerky products. Lots of magazines catering to the community (military themed mags, plus guns, and hunting).

At the end cap, the raw cider...Man that stuff's expensive! $7.99 for the skinny container!

Of course they also sold apple pies from a local bakery, Mom's.

There's Bert pretending to chug the cider like some sort of wino. We still haven't finished it yet!

This place, the Julian Pie Company was also next to Don's Market...we'll have to check it out next time (if there is a next time). Maybe if they get snow, we'll make another trip up.

On the 67, heading home...

Our food souvenirs from Julian. The apple boysenberry pie from the Julian Cafe and two bread items from Dudley's, a blueberry cream cheese strudel and the Julian apple nut bread. The strudel was a bit of a disappointment. There was hardly any blueberry cream cheese filling. I also thought it was kind of ugly how the puff pastry was folded around the filling. I can make better looking strudel than this. Bert enjoyed it with his coffee the next day...

And here's the first (mangled) slice from that pie. I could have just eaten that crumb topping alone! But that would be selfish of me, wouldn't it!

I actually had some more of these "Twilight: New Moon" plates (circa Fall 2009). Don't judge - they were a gift from MFH and TORC. Both of them gave me two sets of these plus napkins with the stars' faces on them. It's funny because I made totally fun of these party supplies at the stores and lo and behold, they were given to me as a gift. MFH and TORC, if you're reading this, I'm not ungrateful, ok? We put them to good use! TC once ate tater tots on one of these plates and put ketchup on RPattz's nostrils and gave him a ketchup unibrow and lipstick. Nice.

That was a great slice of pie!!!!
And speaking of pie, here's yet another Pie reference from a classic movie from the 80's, "Revenge of the Nerds":
Wait, that was a different kind of Pie!
And that my friends was how we celebrated Nigel Tufnel Day/National Metal Day/Veteran's Day in Julian...

I love Dudley's pastries. I used to buy it from the Henry's in La Mesa way back when and didn't realize it was a full-fledged bakery. Now I have to visit Santa Ysabel and check it out for myself.
hi darlene - it smells so good in there! so many different breads to choose from too! you guys should go!
Oh Dudley's! I usually pick up a loaf from Sprouts or the commissary every now and then. The jalapeno cheese one. The cheese bread fresh from the oven is so awesome to eat warm.
hahaha, Revenge of the Nerds, love that movie!
