Lil Piggy's Memphis Style BBQ

Last week on the eve of 9/11, a few of our friends met up at the Ferry Landing in Coronado for dinner at Lil' Piggy's Bar-B-Q. The occasion was to celebrate the 40th bday of Robsessed's Husband (heretofore referred to as RH). Robsessed and her daughter (TC's best friend) was there as well. RH is so confident in his masculinity, he wears black nail polish on his toes (now just the big toes) and sometimes wears shirts that say, "I love Boobies", "If You Ain't Pilipino, you ain't Chit", and my personal favorite, "Welcome to the Gun Show" with arrows pointing to the biceps region. He received a new gift shirt from the other family which proclaims, "Someone call the vet because these puppies are SICK!" (on the shirt is a buff guy flexing his arms)! RH is a very cool guy and tonight he chose Lil Piggy's to mark his 4th decade of life. The other family there was our sexy nurse friend, her husband and son (TC's friend). Joining us a little later that night was Thane, who was down from the Bay Area visiting his dad. He was also kind enough to join us the week before for Bert's 40th bday picnic...
The Ferry Landing is a pretty touristy place. We hadn't been there in a while but were curious about this new BBQ joint that they raved about...We got there around 6:30'ish. There was no problem parking and we found seats at an empty table. There is no indoor dining here, Everything is outside, picnic table style.
See the yelp reviews here. Click here to see their online menu. Warning - you may want to turn off the sound if you don't want to hear a blues song while perusing the menus. Below is their list of "100 Bottles of Beer". If you order 6 or more, the price drops to about a $1.00 a beer. Or so Bert says. They went through about 6 or 7 that night.

Memphis Nachos - (description lifted straight from their online menu) - "A great Memphis find – tortilla chips are covered in queso sauce and topped with diced tomatoes, jalapenos, green onions, drizzled sour cream, and BBQ sauce and a heap of pulled pork or chicken. Sweet, hot, and crunchy!". This was definitely a hit - I could have just eaten this. Lots of flavors and texture here.
The Pigout Platter - 3 Meats, 2 Sides and White Bread. The sides were corn fritters and coleslaw. I have to tell you, that smoked sausage was one of the best I've ever tasted! I could have just eaten that as well, along with those nachos. The brisket was also very good - nice and tender.
Three sides - curly fries, onion rings, and baked beans. Fried food galore!
This is the Gone to Market Sampler Platter - 4 Rib Bones, 1/4 Brisket, Smoked Sausage, 1/2 lb pulled pork, 1/2 Chicken with 3 sides (seen above) and white bread. I didn't really have the chicken or the ribs, but the brisket was awesome and so was the pulled pork!!! More please.
Here is the corn meal crusted corn fritter, which is served with honey butter with a touch of cinammon. I could have done without the cinammon in the butter. It was a bit too sweet for me, but I still liked it. The corn fritters were really good, but a bit heavy. One or two are good enough unless you like the feeling of it sitting in your gut. See that corn? Better chew it carefully or you'll it tomorrow!
Here's RH with that evening's conquered bottles. No, he did not drink this all himself. This was between the 3 husbands and one of the wives.
Later on, there was an "afterparty" at Robsessed's house. The guys imbibed alcoholic beverages while us womenfolk yakked about the upcoming season finale of "True Blood". Can you please give me more of Eric Northman in Season 3 Alan Ball? The drinks consumed that night were Beer Margaritas (lime beer with frozen limeade and tequila), Patron, and Russian Standard Vodka. I even tried a bit of the Russian Standard - it was very very smooth indeed. No one else in that group turns 40 until next year...We cut the evening short at around 10 pm since the girls had CCD the next day.
